Zimmerman’s Lawyers Want Judge Removed From Case
The lawyers of George Zimmerman have requested that the judge assigned to their client’s case be removed. The judge in question, Seminole Circuit Judge Jessica Recksiedler, is married to a man that works with a CNN legal analyst. Her husband is a law partner of Mark NeJame, whom Zimmerman had previously contacted to represent him. NeJame turned him down as he did not wish to work a case with that large of a national profile.
Zimmerman attempted a second time to hire NeJame, but by that time he was working as a legal analyst for CNN. The case has received a huge amount of media attention, and given her husbands connection to a lawyer who is now working as a contributor for the media there could be a conflict in the case.
In related news, several news stations and newspapers have petitioned Recksiedler to reverse an order to seal the court records for the case. The defense is worried that if the records are not sealed then witnesses may be contacted and the case may be contaminated. The high profile nature of the case is what leads them to this conclusion.
Zimmerman is scheduled to have a bail hearing on Friday. His lawyers are concerned for his safety if he is released. There have been several comments relayed through the media calling for vigilante justice against Zimmerman from high profile people and groups. That rhetoric has died down somewhat since he was arrested.
The circus is just beginning in what will likely be the biggest trial since the OJ Simpson murder trial. This story has dragged up a lot of pent up tension that has been boiling for years. This incident was merely the match to the gasoline. The trial figures to be the explosion.
