Week 3 College Football Power Rankings
Week 3 of the college football season saw a couple of upsets, including one that could change the landscape this year. The second ranked USC Trojans fell to Stanford, putting their national title hopes in jeopardy. Virginia Tech also lost, killing their chances of breaking into the top ten. The rest of the top ten took care of business, with Alabama, LSU, and Florida State looking particularly dominant.
Top ranked Alabama decimated the remnants of an Arkansas team that was supposed to be a top competitor in the SEC West. Without Tyler Wilson, the hogs stood no chance, and were blew out 52-0. Alabama notched its second consecutive shutout, and 5th in their last 14 games. The Crimson Tide appear to be head and shoulders above everyone else right now.
LSU and Florida State took care of teams they were supposed to beat. LSU topped Idaho 63-14. Kenny Hilliard rushed for 116 yards on just 11 carries and scored two touchdowns to power the Tigers to victory. FSU crushed Wake Forrest 52-0, amassing over 600 yards of offense along the way. Chris Thompson had 9 carries for 197 yards and 2 touchdowns, and the Noles cranked out another dominant performance. Its beginning to look like old times in Tallahassee.
USC was doomed by its inefficiency on 3rd down, going 0-12. QB Matt Barkley was ineffective, throwing no touchdowns and 2 interceptions. USC could never get its act together, and their lack of depth was exploited. We will see what this team is really made of in the coming weeks.
