Two Films Tie For Top Box Office Spot
There was no clear cut winner at the weekend box office, with two films claiming the top spot. “End of Watch” and “House at the End of the Street” tied for first place with $13 million a piece in their opening weekends. A third film, the Clint Eastwood flick “Trouble With the Curve”, came in right behind the first two with a $12.7 million opening. Overall, the box office was down from a year ago.
The other big opener this week was “Dredd”, a second stab at the Judge Dredd franchise following a 1995 effort starring Sylvester Stallone. The opening for the new Dredd was relatively week, bringing in only $6.3 million. The movie was shot on a $45 million budget. Last week’s number one film, “Resident Evil: Retribution” fell to number five with a $6.7 million haul.
