Search On For Hit and Run Driver in Mt Vernon

Posted by David Merrell On April - 17 - 2012

A Mt Vernon man was the victim of a hit and run early this past Sunday morning. The accident occurred around 2:30 AM. Ozymandias Scott was hit on Old Highway 43 between Military Road and Highway 43 according to WKRG News 5. He is currently listed in critical condition at USA Medical Center.

The driver is still at large. Anyone with information on the accident should contact the Mt. Vernon Police Department at 251-829-6631.

Mt. Vernon is a small town, with a population of just 844 as of the 2000 census. The total land area of the town is just 1.9 square miles. The town lies in the far north of Mobile County where there is not much traffic. It is easy to see how an accident like this could happen in the middle of the night.

Leaving the scene of an accident is a crime. A hit and run that involves injury or death is a felony in the state of Alabama. If only property damage results from a hit and run it is considered a misdemeanor. In this instance there was a major injury involved in the accident. When the perpetrator is found they will be charged accordingly.
