Saraland Tops Satsuma In First Football Matchup
On Friday night, the seeds of a new rivalry were sowed as Saraland High School and Satsuma High School faced off on the gridiron for the first time. Saraland gained bragging rights this time around with a dominant 56-7 win. The Spartans improved to 3-1 on the season with the win, dropping Satsuma to 1-3.
The star of the night for Saraland was Wyndell Archie, who caught 6 passes for 130 yards. Archie also caught four touchdowns. The Spartans got touchdown runs out of Jeffrey Gatewood and Leander Burrows. Saraland got a couple of interceptions and a blocked punt to aid them to victory as well.
The two schools lay just a few miles apart, and many of the kids who attend grew up knowing each other. Prior to the development of the Saraland School System, most of the kids in the area went to Satsuma. This year, Satsuma started a school system of its own. By starting their own school systems, it means the teams will only get players who live inside of the city, with the exception of transfers. Each school now has a smaller pool of players to choose from.
