**Update 8/8/2013** The identity of the victim has been released by the Bay Minette Police Department. The driver of the semi truck that was hit by the train was 55-year-old Pheron Wade Weaver. Weaver lives in a nearby apartment, but had no family in town. Police generally notify a victim’s family before releasing their name.
A train-on-car collision in Bay Minette has claimed the life of an unidentified man. The accident occurred yesterday around 4:45 PM. The train collided with the truck at the Hand Avenue and Railroad Street Crossing. Local 15 News reports that the impact was very strong and left wreckage for several blocks, from Hoyle Street to Myrtle Street.
The truck the man was driving caught fire after the wreck. Despite the severity of the crash, officials say no chemicals were leaked and the train did not derail. The victim was ejected from his vehicle during the crash. He was taken to North Baldwin Infirmary for treatment. The driver passed away from his injuries at some point today.
