Florida Makes Its Move With Win Over South Carolina

Posted by David Merrell On October - 21 - 2012

It was a pretty good week for Florida Gator fans. At the start of the week, they find out their team was ranked number two in the initial BCS standings. In the nearly all of the polls, they were behind Oregon. The Gators capped the week by trouncing seventh ranked South Carolina, 44-11. With their emphatic win over a top ten opponent, the Gators proved they are for real. The dominant win was enough for me to believe the BCS hype and put the Gators in the number two spot this week as well.

Top ranked Alabama put on yet another dominant performance against one of their top rivals, the Tennessee Volunteers. The Tide rolled all over Tennessee, 44-13. AJ McCarron had a huge day, completing 17/22 passes for 306 yards and 4 touchdowns. WR Amari Cooper helped those numbers with a record setting day for a freshman. Cooper caught 7 passes for 162 yards and 2 touchdowns. TJ Yeldon chipped in with 15 carries for 129 yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground.

In other top ten action, Oregon topped Arizona State 43-21 on Thursday night. The Ducks remain a quiet contender due to their relatively weak schedule. That should change in the next few weeks as they begin to take on the top tier of the Pac 12 conference. Kansas State crushed West Virginia 55-14. It was the second straight blowout loss for the Mountaineers, who have had a rude welcome to the Big 12 conference. West Virginia had been a top ten team prior to their last to losses.

Notre Damme slipped by BYU 17-14. The Fighting Irish are having an impressing season, but close wins over weak teams prove to me that the bubble is likely to burst soon. Next weekend the Irish head to Oklahoma to take on the Sooners in what could be a rude wake up call. LSU picked up a key win over Texas A&M on the road, 24-19. Florida State handled the Miami Hurricanes, 33-20.
