Amy Turner Kreis was killed in a car accident in Bay Minette today. The accident occurred at about 7:15 AM 3 miles north of Bay Minette on Highway 59. It was a single vehicle crash so no one else was hurt. Kreis was driving a 2008 Nissan Sentra that veered off the road and over turned. She was ejected out of the vehicle. It is not known if she was wearing her seat belt or not at this time. She was pronounced dead in route to USA Medical Center. State Troopers are still investigating the accident.
Wearing a seat beat is mandatory in Alabama. Failure to do so will result in a ticket. Every year one out of every five drivers are involved in a car accident. Car crashes are the leading cause of death in people 44 years of age or younger. About 35,000 people are killed each year from automobile accidents. It is estimated that half of those deaths could be prevented by using a seat belt.
