Crash Closes Lanes On Dolly Parton Bridge
A two car accident involving a crane truck and a passenger car has led to at least two fatalities on the General W.K. Wilson Jr Bridge on I-65, also known as the Dolly Parton brige. The accident occurred on the southbound lanes, which were still closed as of 11:28 AM according to WKRG News 5. Traffic was being re-routed to AL225 at Exit 31 north of the bridge. ALDOT is working intensely to get at least one lane open. Any travelers headed that way should exercise extreme caution and prepare for a delayed trip.
**Update** According to WKRG News 5, the driver of the crane truck, 36 year old John D. Lopez of Theodore, stopped his vehicle in the right lane of the interstate for unknown reasons. Police believe narcotics may be connected. Lopez has been arrested and charged with Vehicular Homicide and is currently in Mobile County Metro Jail.
The two victims who died were in a vehicle that hit the crane truck. They were 74 year old James Wilson Barber of Citronelle, and 65 year old Lorine Lilly Frazier, also of Citronelle. They were driving a 1995 Ford F-150. Neither passenger was wearing their seat belt, and both were pronounced dead on the scene. Both lanes of traffic were closed for some time. By 12:30 PM, authorities were able to open one lane, and by 3:30 both lanes were finally opened.
